We are moving into the last third of the year and I guess that life is returning to the familiar routines after the comings and goings throughout the summer (???) months. This may be a good opportunity to remind you that both Coffee & Muffins and Kidz Klub resume this month, as well as to invite you to join with us on any Sunday morning.
Some things go on as before, but for us at FBC some things will be different as over recent weeks there has been two additions to our team. Kathryn (Kat) Allwright, our Children and Youth Worker, has come to us from Saltash in Cornwall and Chris Simpkins has just completed his studies at Spurgeons College, London, and is to be our Associate Minister. Chris also has a lot of experience working with young people.
Talking of young people, I am reminded of the times in my youth when we used tell scary stories that began: ‘It was on a dark and stormy night....’ Well, it was on a dark and stormy night and a man was on the side of the road hoping to hitch a lift into town. It was getting late and still no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Then suddenly he saw a car coming slowly toward him. It stopped right in front of him so without thinking about it, the man got into the back seat, closed the door. Only then did he realise that there was nobody behind the wheel!

Right now (end of May) it seems that the news is filled with issues to
do with the actions – or lack of action! – of governments and countries
engaged in elections. From Zimbabwe to the USA and the Crewe and
Nantwich by-election to the appointment of a mayor for London (and not
forgetting our own recent local elections), the people who get to
govern is high on the agenda right now.
But it’s not just the political commentators who immerse themselves in
the minutiae of policies and procedures, candidates and manifestos.
Apparently academic and scientific research departments continue to
analyse and experiment in this area just as much as in more mainline
subjects, A paper has recently been published by a major research
institution (MRI) in which it announced the discovery of the heaviest
chemical element yet known to science. The new element has been
tentatively named Governmentium.

Last week a group of us from FBC took a trip to 'Spring Harvest' in Minehead, Somerset. It's a great place to be where Christians and non Christians alike go to have a good time and to learn more, ask questions, worship together or simply just have fun and relax with other friends and people from church.
